ALUMINUM WHEEL POLISHING THAT ACTUALLY REFLECTS
Your wheels are one of the most visible parts of any build, and nothing makes a statement like a set of mirror-polished aluminum. At Nautical Polishing in Burleson, TX, wheel polishing is one of our most requested services — and we do it the right way, with no shortcuts.
We work on every surface of the wheel: the face, spokes, barrel, inside of the barrel, and the lip. Most shops focus only on the face and let the barrel slide. We don't. When you pick up your wheels from us, the reflection holds from every angle.
Whether you have a brand-new set of cast aluminum wheels or a heavily oxidized set you've been neglecting for years, call us at (469) 383-4724and we'll tell you what we can do with them.
HOW WE POLISH WHEELS
Wheel polishing requires more setup than other aluminum pieces because of their complex geometry — spokes, recessed areas, and tight corners all need to be reached. Here's how we work:
Assessment & Coating Removal
We inspect the wheels for factory clearcoat, anodizing, or powdercoat — any coating must come off before bare-metal polishing begins. If your wheels have clearcoat, we remove it as part of the process. We also note curb rash, gouges, and deep pitting that need to be addressed before sanding begins.
Curb Rash Repair
Curb damage is sanded, blended, and feathered into the surrounding metal. We don't just polish over curb rash — that hides it under shine and it reappears within weeks. We remove the damage properly so the finished surface is truly smooth.
Coarse Cut — Faces & Spokes
Starting with the face and spokes, we use coarse abrasives to remove heavy oxidation and surface scratches. The flat face of a wheel is the straightforward part — the spokes and recessed areas require patience and the right tooling.
Barrel & Lip
The barrel — the inside of the wheel — gets the same treatment as the face. Lip polishing brings the outer edge to a crisp, chrome-like mirror. This is the part most shops skip or rush. We don't.
Progressive Polish Stages
We work through medium, fine, and ultra-fine compounds in stages. Each stage removes the scratches from the previous one. Skipping steps leaves haze and swirl marks that are invisible in shop lighting but obvious in sunlight.
Final Buff & Inspection
High-speed buffing with a finishing compound brings out the full mirror. We then check every inch under direct light before the wheels leave our shop.
WHAT KINDS OF WHEELS CAN WE POLISH?
We work on cast aluminum wheels and forged aluminum wheels for cars, trucks, SUVs, and semis. Here's what matters:
- The wheel must be aluminum — chrome-plated steel wheels cannot be polished to a mirror this way
- Factory clearcoat must come off first — we handle this in-house
- Powdercoated wheels need the coat stripped before polishing — we do this too
- Anodized wheels need the anodizing removed — add-on service we offer
- Curb rash, oxidation, and light gouges can be repaired as part of the polish process
- Deep structural cracks are a safety issue and cannot be polished — we'll tell you upfront if a wheel has damage that goes beyond cosmetics

BEFORE & AFTER

Oxidized, brake-dust stained, curb rash on the lip.
After
Mirror finish — every spoke, barrel, and lip.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Do tires need to be off before I bring the wheels in?
Yes. The tires need to be dismounted so we can access every part of the wheel. Have your tire shop pull them before drop-off, or call us and we'll recommend a local shop.
My wheels have factory clearcoat — can you still polish them?
Yes. Clearcoat has to come off before we can polish the bare aluminum. We offer clearcoat removal and include it in the full wheel polishing process.
Can you fix curb rash before polishing?
Yes — curb rash repair is one of the most common add-ons for wheel polishing jobs. We sand and blend the damage into the surrounding metal before starting the polish sequence.
Do you polish the inside of the barrel?
Yes. A full wheel polish at Nautical Polishing includes the face, spokes, inside of the barrel, and the lip. We don't skip the parts you can't see from across a parking lot.
How do I keep the wheels looking good after polishing?
Rinse and dry your wheels after every wash to prevent water spots and brake dust buildup. Avoid acid-based wheel cleaners. Over time, aluminum slowly re-oxidizes — a periodic maintenance buff (much less work than the initial polish) restores the mirror without starting over.
How long does wheel polishing take?
A full set of four wheels typically takes 1–3 days depending on condition — more for wheels with heavy oxidation, curb rash, or coatings to remove. We'll give you a more accurate timeline when you bring them in or describe them over the phone.
