THE FIRST STEP TOWARD A TRUE MIRROR

Almost all factory aluminum wheels come with a clearcoat applied at the factory. It protects the aluminum from oxidation and keeps the wheel looking clean for years — but it also prevents the metal from being polished to a true mirror.

At Nautical Polishing in Burleson, TX, clearcoat removal is one of the most common first steps we perform before wheel polishing. We strip the coating completely, cleanly, and without damaging the aluminum underneath. Then we move straight into polishing — you drop off coated wheels and pick up mirrors.

We also remove aftermarket clearcoat from parts, engine components, and any other aluminum piece where the coating is blocking a polish. Call (469) 383-4724 for a quote.

WHAT WE REMOVE CLEARCOAT FROM

  • Factory-clearcoated aluminum wheels (OEM and aftermarket)
  • Engine parts with clearcoat over the aluminum (valve covers, intakes)
  • Custom parts with aftermarket clearcoat applied
  • Boat hardware and fittings with clearcoat
  • Any aluminum piece where clearcoat is blocking the polish

After clearcoat removal, we proceed directly to aluminum polishing or wheel polishing. One shop, start to finish.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why does clearcoat have to be removed before polishing?

A true mirror polish requires bare aluminum. Clearcoat is a polymer coating that sits on top of the metal — you can't buff through it or around it. It has to come off completely.

Most wheels come with factory clearcoat — does mine?

Almost certainly yes. Nearly all OEM aluminum wheels are clearcoated from the factory. That's the most common reason clearcoat removal is needed before wheel polishing.

Will removing the clearcoat damage my wheels?

No — we remove it carefully using methods that won't pit or scratch the aluminum underneath. The goal is bare, clean metal ready for polishing.

Do you polish after the clearcoat is off?

Yes. Clearcoat removal is always followed by our aluminum polishing process. We do both steps in-house as a single job.
