EXHAUST POLISHING — ALUMINUM AND STAINLESS
A polished exhaust is one of the cleanest finishing touches you can put on a build. Whether it's a pair of polished stainless tips peeking out the rear, a fully visible side-exit pipe on a race build, or a set of polished headers in an open engine bay — a mirror exhaust finishes the job.
At Nautical Polishing in Burleson, TX, we polish exhaust components in both aluminum and stainless steel. We handle everything from simple tip polishing to full header polishing with heat discoloration removal.

WHAT WE POLISH
Exhaust Tips
Single, dual, and quad tips — round, oval, or angled. In and out, including the inner edge visible when you look at the tip straight-on.
Exhaust Pipes
Straight sections, mandrel bends, and Y-pipes polished to a consistent mirror along the full length.
Headers
Stainless and mild steel headers polished from the flanges down to the collector. Every primary tube worked to the same finish.
Full Exhaust Systems
For show builds we can do full systems — from the head flange or turbo downpipe all the way to the exit tip.
Heat-Discolored Stainless
Bluing, gold tinting, and rainbow discoloration from high exhaust temps removed before polishing begins.
Turbo Downpipes
Downpipes and dump tubes that are visible in the engine bay or on a side-exit setup polished to match the rest of the build.
STAINLESS VS. ALUMINUM EXHAUST POLISHING
Both materials can reach a mirror finish, but they behave very differently under the polishing process:
STAINLESS STEEL
- Harder to cut — requires more aggressive abrasives and longer work time
- Heat discoloration (bluing/rainbow) must be removed first
- Holds its finish longer and more resistant to re-oxidation
- Better choice for high-heat exhaust sections near the manifold
ALUMINUM
- Softer — polishes faster and easier to work into tight areas
- Less common in full exhaust systems, more common in tips and piping
- Requires more regular maintenance to prevent re-oxidation
- Great for show pieces not exposed to extreme heat cycles

OUR WORK
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Can you polish stainless exhaust tips?
Yes. We polish both aluminum and stainless. Stainless requires different tooling and more time, but we do it regularly.
My exhaust tips are blue from heat — can that be removed?
Yes. Heat discoloration is one of the most common things we deal with on stainless exhaust. The bluing and rainbow tint are removed before polishing begins.
Do I need to remove the exhaust first?
For tips and individual pipes, most customers remove them before drop-off. For headers or full systems, call us first — some setups are better handled with the exhaust off the vehicle.
Will the polish hold up to heat?
On tips and cooler rear sections, yes. On headers and high-heat manifold sections, heat will eventually discolor the surface again — especially on stainless. For show-only builds this isn't a concern; for daily drivers it's worth knowing upfront.
Can you do a full exhaust system?
Yes, for show builds we can handle full exhaust systems from the header flange or downpipe to the tip. Call us to discuss the scope of your project.
